What is hms carlisle?

HMS Carlisle was a C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy that served during World War II. She was launched in 1918 and saw action in several theatres of the war, including the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean.

During her service, HMS Carlisle took part in convoy escort duties, anti-submarine patrols, and shore bombardments. She also participated in the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck and the Italian fleet during the Battle of Calabria.

In 1942, HMS Carlisle was severely damaged by an Italian torpedo bomber off the coast of Egypt but managed to return to service after repairs. She continued to serve in the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean until the end of the war.

After the war, HMS Carlisle was decommissioned and sold for scrap in 1946. Her wartime service was commemorated with several awards and battle honours, including the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Indian Ocean campaigns.
